Quantity Surveyor

Location: Castlecary, 2–3 days travel to Liverpool/Manchester

Salary: Competitive

Hours of Work: 39 hours, Monday-Thurs 8am-4.30, Fri-8am-3.30pm

Contract: Permanent

CMS Window Systems is an industry leading building envelope contractor specialising in the design, manufacture and installation of PVCu and aluminium windows, doors and curtain walling systems.

We are currently seeking a Quantity Surveyor, your main base will be at our head office in Castlecary but you will be required to travel to Liverpool/Manchester 2-3 days per week.

Working as part of a large QS team, you will commercially control and manage all costs and billing applications relating to projects, from the initial order through to the final account.  You will cover a range of sectors including commercial, social housing and new build.

Quantity Surveyor Responsibilities will include:


  • Manage and produce tender and contract negotiation documents, including bills of quantities and specifications;
  • Review construction issue drawings and specifications against tender documentation;
  • Review subcontractor quotes and authorise subcontractors orders;
  • Ensure that all activities are delivered to the agreed time/cost/service specification;
  • Prepare phased values for each project under their control;
  • Attend the internal operation/handover meetings;
  • Assisting in project risk assessment and value management;
  • Identify, analyse and develop responses to commercial risks;
  • Prepare and submit interim Applications for Payment and Final Accounts;
  • Prepare and authorise subcontractors payment sheets;
  • Identify and secure reimbursement of variations to the contracted scope of works and ensure inclusion in Applications for Payment;
  • Maintain a positive cash flow and maximise profitability of projects;
  • Liaise with operations to ensure projects are run efficiently and on time;
  • Liaising with manufacturing / customer care to ensure best service is provided to the client;
  • Manage, monitor and report on all commercial aspects of projects;

Quantity Surveyor Requirements:


  • Degree or equivalent qualification within the manufacturing and installation of external Windows & Doors or, alternatively, from a construction / manufacturing background.
  • Preferably have 2 years’ experience working within a similar environment;
  • Willing to travel with, current driving licence
  • Comfortable working on own initiative and as part of a team;
  • Strong commercial acumen and numerical skills;
  • IT literate with good knowledge of Microsoft Excel;
